The GFR Center for Tapestry Studies fosters the creative practice and cultural study of tapestry-making from ancient to modern times. The Tapestry Center’s research projects and public programs address the art of traditional and contemporary tapestry, handwoven around the world. We encourage the scholarly understanding and public appreciation of tapestries.

Our activities include:

  • conducting active interdisciplinary research;
  • organizing and supporting artistic, historical, and cultural programs;
  • honoring scholarly excellence in research, publication, exhibition, and teaching; and
  • collaborating with other organizations and individuals with similar goals.
