Welcome!

New Mexico Fiber Artisans is:  growers, artisans, galleries, suppliers, teachers, students, and already existing fiber communities in the state of New Mexico.  A look at our members and what they are doing will give you a glimpse into the exciting fiber traditions and creativity of our state.  We hope to represent all the areas of fiber creativity our state has to offer, and let the rest of the world know about our traditions and our tremendous vitality and creativity, as well as the connection to the past and to the land.  Our state is like no other in this regard.  The hope is to increase awareness and increase selling opportunities for all of us who are producing fiber related work.  To that end I am inviting all kinds of fiber artisans to join in promoting New Mexico's fiber work.

Membership funds will be used by New Mexico Fiber Artisans to continue our efforts at cooperative advertising promoting New Mexico Fiber, to support the NMFA website, the publishing of a printed directory of all of the Artisans represented by NMFA, and, in the future, events that will serve the entire fiber community of the state.  We need input and direction from all areas of the fiber community of our state in moving our organization towards all of these goals.

We also are partners with New Mexico Arts, the State's arts agency, on the New Mexico Fiber Arts Trails. The trails lead visitors to fiber artists and related business that applied to be in a statewide guide. The trails are designed to bring the market to artists, while promoting arts-based tourism and creative economic development.   A beautiful booklet and an accompanying brochure are currently distributed throughout the state promoting the Fiber Arts Trails.

Registered users will be able to join us in the Discussion forum.  This is free of charge.

We have three membership levels available.  Most people will be able to join as an "Individual Member"  Indivudual Members will be able to do the following:  They will be able to display their business information on any of the category pages they feel they should be represented on.  The only pages that "individual members" won't be able to put yourself on are the "Galleries" and "Organizations" pages.  They'll also be able to enter "classified ads" on category pages.  Annoucements can be posted on the Home Page as well.  The can participate in the discussion forum too. We are asking for $25 for this membership level.

Galleries and Organizations representing five or more people are asked to join as "Organizations".  You will be able to put in your information  on any page you like.  So, for example, a quilting guild would put their information on the Quilting page as well as the Organizations page.  "Organizations" will also be able to put their organizations' events on the Events calendar. And, for anybody joining at this level who doesn't already have a web page to link to, we'll put together a page with information just on your organization/business.  It'd be a simple "brochure" web page with information provided to us.  We are asking for $100 for this membership level.

"Supporting Members" is for those who are not residents of the state of New Mexico, or who are not fiber artists interested in selling their work but would like to support NMFA regardless.  Supporting members are non-voting members of NMFA.   This is another $25 membership level.

NMFA Pocket Project - Monday, March 12, 2007
We will have displays in two locations,
Espanola Valley Fiber Arts Center, and the Southwest Women's Fiber Arts Collective,
to display business cards or brochures of individual members of NMFA.
The New Mexico Fiber Trails will be highlighting these two locales as important
information points. So these will be places where people who are
interested in NM fiber arts and are actually in the state and traveling
around will be coming. Our cards or brochures will be available to
these people so that they can find out about people who may or may not
be on the Fiber Trails. Since these displays don't exist yet, we
decided that they should consist of pockets made out of the materials
each NMFA member is working with/selling. It will wind up being
something like a big room divider/screen that has our pockets attached
to it in an aesthetically pleasing way.   'The pockets need to be sized for rack card (5"x6") or for business card (2 1/2" x 2 1/2"for a regular horizontal business card or
4"X 1 1/2" for a vertical card)
